MHS Welders Creating Public Art Welded Sculpture
Three students from the Marana High School Welding Program, Brandon Gilbert, Senior Gabriel Avenenti, Senior, and Brayden Riggs, MHS Class of 2024, and local artist Trevor O’Tool, are working on an aviation-themed art sculpture that will be installed near the Marana Regional Airport main entrance. MHS welding instructors Mr. Mario Favela and Mr. Brett Fisher also work on the project team. The $75,000 public art display is funded by the 2024 Transportation Art By Youth (TABY) Program administered by the Pima Association of Governments. The project is in full swing and is on target to be installed in August 2024!
For project inspiration, the team recently visited the Marana Airport to learn about the airport and the AT-6 Texans that trained in Marana in 1943.
